Mom Must Haves and Advice

Since I have 3 weeks until my due date I've been making sure I have everything I need for the baby to arrive. I was thinking about it and really I'm not sure exactly what I need. So basically I'm asking for advice from moms. What are some things you can't live without when you have a baby or seem to make things easier, things for me or baby? Also any advice is also welcome. This is obviously all new to me so please leave a comment, I can use the help.

HI Nat,
I wouldn't want to live without my diaper genie, my house would smell like a public restroom without it. Also my parent handbook, I feel like it gives me some direction so that Im not on my own wondering what to do. It works wonders, It helped me get my kids to sleep through the night at 2 & 3weeks old. Your going to be an amazing mom. I can't wait. Angie

Mmmm I have to think on this one for a bit but I am definitely remembering how much I LOVED having a swing!! Seriously Eli slept in there for months!!!!! Just make sure you always buckle them no matter how tiny and immobile they seem (sad stories about that one)

While the pretty little crocheted burp rags and freakin cute, they don't work very well.
Especially when your baby is spitting up all the time. We used the cloth diapers as burp rags and we absolutely loved them. They were big enough, so you wouldn't get spit up on you, and much more absorbant!

A couple other things that definitely helped were a dimmer switch for the bedroom, since when baby's falling asleep, it's nice to be able to turn the lights down but not off.

Something else we used was a noisemaker. We varied how loud and soft it was and varied the sounds. This way Asher never had to have it super quiet to sleep. I took him to Costco the other day, and he slept the whole time!

Let me know if you need any more suggestions. Since I just did this, I'm all full of advice. Good Luck!

I thought of something else...;) And that last comment about a noise maker was a good one! Use a fan or lullabies or nature sounds they work great! Eli loved vibrations!! We used his portacrib for the first month or two because he went to sleep well with the vibrator that it had. Last make sure if you plan to nurse that you bring Lanolin oil with you to the hospital (sometimes they give one to you) and have it at home for that first few days of nursing! TRUST ME!

Well, due to the fact the Hampton is almost 10mos old, the beginning is still pretty fresh in the mind. The beginning was VERY hard for us and our sweet colic boy. I would suggest take a binki to the hospital and start it RIGHT AWAY. I'm not so sure I believe in nipple confusion, I believe in peace!! I love a swing, bouncey seat, the bumbo(a must), and our johnny jump up. I used and still use a few everyday. Fashion is a must for me, but soft soft clothes are the best. And the most important...pack that bag and keep it in the car. I had Hampton at 37weeks unexpected. My bag was packed, but at home by the bed. Good Luck to you both!!

- Medela Quick Steam Bags (LIFESAVER!)

- A Boppy!

Can't wait for him to arrive! (Also can't wait to see you in the hospital- Don't ask why, but I LOVE visiting NEW moms in the hospital! So fun! Especially when it's my nephew!)

Hey it's Ashlie (Nate's cousin) I'm so excited for you!! The first thing that I thought of as my "must have" is a hand held shower head that I could use on sore areas (if you know what I mean!) It was heavenly after just having a baby!!

Congrats and good luck!!

Hi. I can't live without this thing. Having two babies that were preemies and one in the winter had was required to stay inside at all costs, I became OCD on germs, then I found this wonderful thing.

Medela Quick Clean Bags at babies R us. You can put bobs and pump things..put in for 3 minutes in the microwave and they are disinfected.
That way you don't have to wait for a long dishwasher cycle, also they are great to take with you on trips or from place to place so if you drop a bob on the way you can clean it really well....
This has saved me and is something I recommend to anyone.
Good Luck to you and excited to see pictures.

Nat I had no idea you were pregnant! Congrats girl! I talk to Julianne every now and again but it's been forever since I've seen you! Good luck with the delivery and I'm sure you'll be the best mother! I wish I had some motherly advice, but since I'm not a mom yet I guess I'll just have to hit you up for some when I'm having a baby! haha
